Speaking at Jackson Park in Koforidua on sunday alongside top officials from the National Democratic Congress, including the National Chairman , Johnson Asiedu Nketia among others. President Mahama thanked Eastern Residents for maintaining a peaceful elections during the 2024 elections, while unveiling an ambitious infrastructure plan to boost roads, healthcare, water and education across the region.
” By the Grace of God we won the 2024 elections with an unprecedented landslide victory , and we are here to say thank you “. The President announced a series of project under the big push estimated at $ 1.5 billion USD annual infrastructure deficit. He further explained that funds sourced from oil and gas revenues will be used to fuel the projects under the ” Big Push ” initiative. President Mahama listed planned projects for the region which included, a modern bridge on the Afram River, Dualization of Koforidua Bunso – Apedwa stretch, completion of the Osino – Anyinam Bypass.
President Mahama also added that the Eastern water supply system will be extended to reach over 1 million residents to the existing communities.
In Education the President also cited reimbursements of first year academic fees and restoration of monthly allowances to nursing and teacher training students, following the payment of six months arrears.
President Mahama reiterated his pledge to complete the Eastern Regional Hospital Project by the Previous administration.
” Eastern Region Plays a pivotal role in Ghana’s Economy, President Mahama Noted “. ” we are committed it receives it fair share of the national cake “.
He praised contributions of people from Eastern Region serving in his government including , Chief of staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, Minister for Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah among a tall list.
Welcoming the Presidents visit was Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, said the visit by the President marks a significant milestone in the development of the region. He assured the President of the continuous collaboration of the Chiefs and the government in developing the region and the nation as a whole.
” Good is not good enough where better is possible” the chief remarked. ” Your Leadership must now build on this momentum to bring sustainable development, hope and prosperity to all Ghanaians.” he added.
He called for job creation, transparency and restoration of public integrity.
The occasion was climaxed by traditional dance troops by selected cultural groups across the region.
